Politics and Economy

The Mission

The Comments

This is a website whose mission is to discuss the politics and government policies that touch on economic issues. To me, what makes these types of websites a great form of communication is its reader comments. So I eagerly welcome a dialog with the readers that write comments, particularly those that disagree with my opinions.

Please read the Comment Approval Policy page before writing a comment. Also notice that the reader comments appear on a separate page after each article after you click on the Articles section.

Politics

I use the term “politics” here in its broader sense, not just to mean political processes like elections, debates, negotiations and votes over bills in congress, but also the public debates in the media and the influence of our political culture on government decisions.

Economy

And I also use the term “economy” in its broadest sense, as anything that requires people to make choices because we can’t have all we want. That can cover topics like military spending, environmental issues, business regulations, monetary policy, government taxing and spending, business cycles, health care, retirement systems and many more.

Where Opinion Meets Reason

Our logo is “where opinion meets reason”. This means that this website is dedicated to discuss opinions that are supported by evidence and their interpretation, using reason. I cannot expect that all of your comments will be able to use supporting evidence, due to space limits. But I prefer comments that give reasons for your opinion. And I commit to using evidence and reason in what I write.

The Audience

This website is directed primarily to a general public audience. Therefore, I avoid as much as possible the use of technical economic terms not familiar to everyone. I do that knowing that it takes more space to write about economic issue without using technical terms, which is one reason why some of my pages are as long as they are. I do welcome comments from other economists.
